BIDDING TIPS FOR ONLINE AUCTIONS

The biggest online auction website is eBay. Anybody
attached to a computer has at least heard of eBay
even if they've never used the website before. eBay
is not the only online auction website today, just about
all of the major online services like Yahoo, Amazon, have
jumped onto the auction train.
Auctions have been around for thousands of years,
everything from animals to marriage have gone through
the auction process. Just like today, the most beautiful
and sought the highest bids, while humble and mundane
items get sold, but for a much less price. Humans have
been using the barter system as a means of obtaining
items they either want or need.
Interestingly, the first online auction site was not eBay
but actually a Japanese company called Aucnet in 1995 that
sold vehicles. However, just months later, eBay was born
and since that time, online auctions continue to grow.
Just to give you an idea of the power behind an online
auction, eBay now sees more than 42 million registered
users, people from all around the globe with something to
sell or interest to buy. To sell on most online auctions,
you need a valid address and credit card for verification.
These auction sites only offer as a go-between among
buyers and sellers. Inexpensive listing fees allow for all
kinds of different and strange things to be bought and
sold on these auction websites. Using an auction service is
easy and all it takes is a basic knowledge of the
computer and some Internet search skills and your all set
to buy or sell what ever you have to offer.
When using an auction website, be careful and pay attention
to what you do. Even though these companies do their best
to keep their customers save from fraudulent people, it can
still happen. Because these auction websites are worldwide,
you can find and buy just about anything you can think of
online. From Beanie Babies to cruise ships, places like
eBay have it all. The listing fees are low, and with basic
computer skills, anyone can buy and sell online.
Selling your wares on an auction website is very simple.
First you will need to describe what you're selling, the
more good things you can list about what your selling, the
more people will want to buy it. A picture of your item is
really the best way to show what you have to offer and with
the digital camera's of today, it really is a snap. Then
set your price, starting low is recommended, this also
draws more buyers. When the auction is over, you ship your
item to the winning bidder.
Buying an item is just as simple, just find what you want,
see when the bidding date is and be there when the bidding
starts. If your the highest bidder the item is yours. You
pay the owner and he/she will send you the item. Many
online websites have a "buy now" option, so if you can't
wait to purchase an item, there may be a set price the owner
will accept for whatever they are selling.
To make the most out of your time on the online auction,
the following are some great pointers to get you started
when buying:
- Rather than start the bidding when an item is first
listed, wait until the last possible moment to submit your
bid, allowing you to keep the bidding war prices down
You can always start by listing the highest amount you
will pay for an item, which then automatically increases
to your maximum bid as additional people begin to place
bids
Watch your time; many get so involved in the bidding
process they forget how fast the time goes.
- Although you might have found the item you want from
doing a search, look for that same item from other
sellers. You may just find a better deal, perhaps a lower
"buy now", lower shipping costs, or the item might be in
better condition
Take time to reach a seller's feedback. This is
important in that it gives you an opportunity to see what
kind of complaints and the amount of complains someone
has received, if any. With this information, you can
make an educated decision whether from that individual or
not. If you have questions - ASK. Most sellers on online
auction sites will provide some means of communication.
If you are unsure about a size, condition, or anything
about an item, find out before you bid.
